Mini guide to New South Wales
Posted on: December 6th, 2007 by bobbyNew South Wales is in fact far from new, having been established as far back as 1788. It is the largest state in terms of population, but then around 63 % of its population live in Sydney, allowing plenty of living space for the other 17%, which makes it a real dream to visit. You get the benefits of the ultra-urban, cool and chic Sydney, but on the other hand, you get all the countryside and beautiful scenery of the rest of the state!
Sydney is a really popular place to visit, with its iconic landmark bridge and a whole host of interesting buildings, tourist attractions, great restaurants etc. But once you have done Sydney and all its culture and arts, as well as heritage, just take a little time to explore New South Wales (NSW). You will not regret it.
NSW is home to some really stunning countryside. There are also some beautiful and quaint little towns and settlements, which date back to the gold miners and farmers. Now, many of these are homes to artists, sculptors and craft workers who have chosen this particular area, because of its fantastic quality of light.
Why not take a trip through the Poacher’s Trail which is a gourmet trip for lovers of fine wines and foods? This runs through the towns of Yass through to Murrumbateman. Or you can have a cruise on a replica paddlesteamer of the 19th Century.
Tamworth in NSW is renowned as Australia’s Country Music capital, but even if you don’t particularly like country music it is a really interesting place to visit and see just how some people are crazy for country. A great cultural insight into country music.
Gunnedah nearby is the perfect place to watch koalas in the wild, or if you are visiting between December and March, you can behold the spectacle which is the sunflower fields and they really are amazing to see.
Wentworth, which is sited at the point where the rivers Murray and Darling meet, is also a wonderfully charming place. You can hire a canoe, go on a paddle steamer, or even hire a very luxurious houseboat. The food and drink is also of fabulous quality, with many award winning venues within close proximity of each other and all the produce used is local.
Just out of Wentworth there are some very significant sites of Aboriginal origins, which really are quite hauntingly beautiful and evocative of another world.
NSW is a real eclectic mix, which means that everyone leaves happy, although most are already planning their return trip. In actual fact, NSW gets in your heart and then it will be there forever, since it is a very special and almost unique state.
